Dimaniyat Islands

On our first full day in Muscat we decided to go diving. The local dive center, after pushing the boat into the sea, ferried us out to the Dimaniyat Islands. Unfortunately, the visibility was very poor as there was a ton of plankton in the water. We were still able to spot loads of pufferfish, GIANT eels (seriously these guys were about a foot in width and 6-10ft in length), and even a few sponges! The water was also freezing compared to our bathtub-like Red Sea. After using leaky regulators and holey wetsuits, we all also decided that in the future we would definitely bring our own gear rather than renting it. It can be a pain to travel with a full set of scuba equipment, but feeling comfortable with your gear is well worth the hassle!

Wadi Shab

Hey everyone, sorry for the lapse in posts, internet access in Oman has not been the greatest. Anyways, after several hours driving through the stark Omani highlands we made it to Wadi Shab. Although it is the dry season and the swimmin' hole was a little dry, the place was magnificent. The boys had fun swimming in the warm murky water while I opted to boulder about the on the canyon walls. We spottted loads of urchins, crabs, and a crazy green road-trip mobile! We all would have loved to have more time to explore the canyon, but with the sun setting, we rinsed off in the nearby Arabian Sea and headed back to Muscat.

scenes from the car

After meeting up in Muscat with our fellow Japanese and American friends, we rented a car and ought out adventure! We headed south along the coast in search of a famous Omani swimmin' hole. Our GPS didn't work and we got a little lost, but we saw so much along the way!

If you could ship yourself anywhere this weekend, where would you go? I think Antarctica would be nice this time of year...
