ladies' day

While the Midwest can often be known as the crossroads of the Rust Belt and the Bible Belt, the home of closed-down factories, illiteracy, obesity, and a land of nothing but Agribusiness for as far as the eye can see, there are also special little havens of goodness if you know where to look.  Liberal enclaves with fresh food, handmade goods, bike paths, antiques, vintage t-shirts, and even the occasional hipster.  Right here.  In the Heartland.

breakfast perfection

Toast Egg
1-2pc bread
1/2T butter
1-2 eggs
pinch of salt

Toast the bread.  Butter the toast.  Tear into pieces.  Soft boil eggs.  Crack open and scoop eggy goop on top of torn toast.  Add pinch of salt.  Eat.

Perfect for those cold Indiana mornings when you need something salty and warm to get your day started.  Enjoy.

the lake

Ya for sailboat races! I love watching the elegant boats glide across the water. A day at the lake isn't complete without at least one dog in the boat and the sun on your face.

wacky adventure: part 2, freedomland

After celebrating my very first Canada Day, we packed up our bags and prepared for Wacky Adventure: part two. A note to travelers- do NOT try to fly to the United States from Canada on July 2nd. Most of the US customs officials were on holiday and the airport was packed! We very nearly missed our flight. We waited in customs (this is done on the Canadian side) for hours and when we finally got through, our names were being called on the loud speaker as a final boarding call. Luckily, we booked it through security, sprinted to our gate, and made it just in the nick of time. We had a quick flight, Mom picked us up at the Indianapolis airport and then we hit the road to the lake.

The boy was overwhelmed with the magnitude of patriotism in the heartland. He said he saw more American flags on the trip to the lake then he has seen Canadian flags in his entire life!

independence day

HAPPY 4th of JULY! I have been too busy playing at the lake to post about the rest of the Canadian adventures (stay tuned, they will come). We are now in America (F* Ya! aka the land of Freedom) enjoying barbeques, fireworks, and giant slip n' slides.

Have a good week
