Things to do when he is not around....

Eat the last piece of pie. all. by. yourself!  You don't gots to share, not even a single bite!

So, I know it is not even remotely pumpkin pie season, but I had some leftover crust after making a tomato pie for a potluck (I totally recommend this recipe) and I had a can of pumpkin just waiting to be used.  And He doesn't really know that pumpkin pie is a Fall-time food because well, He has never really experienced Fall, so I made him a pumpkin pie.  And then he left.  So, I got to finish it!  Does anyone else like to eat the pie filling first and then eat the crust after, or is that just a weird thing that only I do?

I've decided to devote the next few posts to a mini-series that I call, "Things to do when he is not around..." Whether you've just experienced a break-up, or your husband is deployed to fight a war, or he travels for his work, or you find yourself a widow after 75 years of marriage, or your boyfriend is going to night school, I am of the opinion that it is best to look on the bright side.  Congratulations, you are your own best company!  Furthermore, I think that you can still love someone and miss them with your whole heart even if you are enjoying your space.  I'm a firm believer that we all have to be complete individuals on our own before we can really share ourselves with someone else.  I miss Pablo a lot right now and can't wait for his return, but I am also enjoying the little solo adventures that I am embarking on in his absence.

  1. Love this series, I might just have to join in as Rob is about to move three hours away for ten weeks of night duty. Bummer.

But I am also seeing the bright side (because the only alternative is moping). And I am SO with you that you can love and miss someone, and enjoy your own time. And the last piece of pie.

Looking forward to hearing about your adventures! (p.s. I owe you an email - I'll get there tomorrow)

  2. I like this idea too. I love having time to myself... it's the best and it makes time together even better! I especially love to watch bad tv when I get some time on my own, it just feels that much more indulgent.

  3. OK, so pumpkin pie is not my favorite, nor is spending time alone, however distance does make the heart grow fonder...well with the possible exception of pumpkin pie.

  4. I like the idea of this series. :) When my husband goes out of town...even if it's just for the weekend, I get SO bored and lonely. (I know, I'm pathetic. :P) Maybe I just need to look on the bright side and eat some pie too. :)
