All in the name of science. Here are some photos from the famous guppy hunt (see previous post for more details)! 

The sunset that evening really was spectacular. Dramatic clouds and a raging sea were tinged with the golden hue of the day's end. Fishermen came in and out of port as we sat on the rocky coastal shore. The marejada from the few previous days was finally calming down, yet still, every few minutes a giant set would roll in and our friends and surrounding rocks would be doused with chilly salt spray, a reprieve for the fauna inhabiting the otherwise shrinking intertidal pools.

We're headed to the beach, and not the one in these pictures which is about twenty minutes from our house and is graced by ice cold waves all year round.  Heck no, this Friday we are off to a sunny tropical beach.  More stories to come, in the meantime enjoy some of the beachy photos from this past summer.

After devouring seaweed empanadas we decided to take a walk on the beach.  Its not quite like beach strolling in Florida or the tropics, but treasures can be found none the less.  We hunted for some shells to decorate our little house and we though about how cold it will be to dive in those waters!

Hiking Hong Kong Finale

And then... the jungle parted and the surf was before us!  Just mere miles from the city is this almost completely secluded beach.  We enjoyed the crash of the waves against the shore, we bit back our frustration at not having boards (and 5m with hoodies, its cold!) with us, and we shared some Chinese "drink."  My friend brought this back with him from mainland China, it has not yet been approved by the Hong Kong health boards.  This drink is supposed to "calm your inner fire" when eating Hot Pot.  I don't know about the calming the fire bit, but its rooty flavor was interesting.  

After exploring a few beaches, we made our way up up up, back to the bus stop.  It was an amazing hike, thank you friend for showing me this beautiful side of Hong Kong!

the beach in november

A day at the beach in November is not so bad.  The weather is getting really nice here.  Highs in the low 90s, lows in the mid 70s.  The bath-water-warm sea has cooled and is now refreshing after laying in the hot Arabian sun.  The winds pick up in the afternoon for windsurfing and sailing.  Our research vessel on the horizon beckons to unsolved mysteries of the sea.

If I can't go outside during the day, I will go out at night... I think it is prettiest then anyways.
