This past weekend we were invited to join the undergraduate Ecology field course in San Martin.

Field courses are why we all chose to be biologists in the first place. You get to run around outside, learn about nature from experts, study the plants, trap small animals, pick up bugs, and just hang out sometimes discussing science, sometimes discussing Star Wars. A nature nerd's dream. 

So, on Friday morning we headed out to the university's experimental forest which lies about 20km from Valdivia. We set up our tent, put on our zip-off pants, and set off down the dirt path to see what the beautiful temperate rainforest would show us...
