Things to do when he is not around...

Watch TV that he doesn't like!

to sound like a total cliché of myself.  O.M.G.  If you are a 20-something, suffering from the female condition, you should absolutely see this show (Grandma and Grandpa, you should probably not, you will be mortified).   GIRLS is, in my opinion, Uh-Mazing.  I was pretty bummed out to discover last week that there is so far only one season available on itunes.  I thought that this show, like so many other things in pop culture, was something I am far behind on (thanks Saudi Arabia) but it turns out, I'm not! I am very un-patiently waiting for season 2.

but, this show is so great.  while I don't live in New York and I'm not unemployed (in fact, I moved to freakin' Saudi Arabia for a pretty sweet job right after I graduated from college) I feel like this show is The Story of My Life. I, like the characters on GIRLS, am an early 20s educated woman-girl who has done some really stupid stuff in her not so long life (I know parents you are cringing right now).  but, it is so great to know that there are others like me out there, that maybe we have all been there, young and dumb, and just trying to figure out how to be an adult...

....and we even have our own TV show!

We Are Young

The wedding was beautiful and went without a hitch.  The groom remembered to kiss the bride (and later licked his best man's face), no one tripped down the aisle, the food was awesome, and the cake was really delicious.  As the night wore on, and everyone got a little more happy, the dancing took center stage.  It was really an awesome party and can only be fully described in song...

my new favorite, I think I would dance by myself in front of 12,000 people just to dance to this song :)

and then we were two... I am memorizing the choreography as you read this

This is Indiana - created by the best man

coffee, mimosas, and hairspray

Getting beautified is exhausting!
Mimosas to start a very long day.....
making a bride....

We went to bed at who-knows-what-time after the rehearsal dinner the night before the big day and then we were up at 7am the next morning to primp and prepare for the afternoon wedding!  I had no idea how exhausting beautification is but with loads of coffee, mimosas, and hairspray we had a great time and left the house feeling beautiful.

Everyone looked stunning and it was really nice to just hang out with the ladies before the ceremony.  Perhaps some might think this girlie stuff is silly, but I think its times like these that unite our gender and remind us that there are just some things you can't do with your husband or boyfriend, or guy friends.  It is these rituals that we share with each other, like preparing your best friend for one of the biggest days of her life, that strengthen our bonds as women and as friends.

Girl Friends

Girl friends.  Not girlfriends.  But I mean friends who are girls.  Women that you just really click with.  Ladies that you can tell your deepest, darkest, most horribly embarrassing secrets to and they still love you.  You can call them up at anytime and talk about what you feel.  You can grab a coffee or glass of wine (if you are lucky enough to live in the same town... or at least same continent) and just hang out.  You fly halfway around the world for each other's weddings.  You were there for the family troubles, and the boy troubles, and the "should I really buy these jeans trouble."  True girl friends are hard to come by, even more so when you are bouncing around the world.

I was so fortunate enough to see two of my very best girl friends while I was back home a week and a half ago.  We have been friends for, I think, ever.   We went to lunch and dished about the happenings in our wild, 20- something lives.  We walked around beautiful bloomington and reminisced about the silly things we did at 16.  We got to stay in the first oh- so adult house any of us owns.  We beautified ourselves for the first Big Day, and then we all walked down the aisle as the first one of us got married to a really great man.
